KINDIE, ALT ROCK/INDIE POP
Marla Vannucci's childhood involved a lot of belting out Neil Diamond in the car with her dad. Hailing from Chicago by way of Texas, she brings a mix of alt rock, pop, and country to her songwriting. Her first bands, Back40 and the Patterson Project, melded bluegrass, country, and lush girl indie pop harmonies.
In 2004, she formed The Souvenirs, which tipped its hat to power women like Sheryl Crow and Liz Phair in the self-titled album, The Souvenirs (produced by Blaise Barton). The Souvenirs played Chicago summer festivals, bars, and parties until 2008, when Marla joined The Captain Blood Orchestra, an established popular Chicago 50's-70's cover band, to play a tribute to 1968 at the Chicago History Museum. It was so much fun that she stayed, regularly playing German bars, the DANK-haus, Lincoln Square Maifest, and the usual Chitown places until the pandemic. In 2020, Marla reunited with former bandmate and kindie artist Amyliza de Jesus in a songwriting class to write "Kindness is King", which led to two kindie EP's being released in 2022 in collaboration with Amy's music collective, Brighter Light Brigade.
Feel it All and Traveling Together (8 Pound Gorilla Records; produced by Dean Jones) are collections of songs intended to be conversation starters for families about expressing feelings, and to support kids in building emotional literacy.
As a voice actor, Marla can be heard in the National Safety Council's hot car campaign, as well as numerous narration roles for commercial and corporate clients, including financial services, restaurant groups, manufacturing and service brands, universities, and medical/pharmaceutical companies on a wide range of topics, such as diversity and inclusion training, technology and equipment procedures, and employee onboarding.
